“SvayChek Organic Farm” is a Japanese run farm located in a forest near Siem Reap. A very famous Japanese woman in Cambodia, Ms. Kojima Sachiko formerly ran a cookie business (Angkor Cookies) for 12 years, pioneering the souvenir industry in Cambodia, and helping to create jobs for locals. And her new challenge is the agriculture project.
The farm is 29kms north of the city, and enjoys the stunning views of Phnom Kulen. They produce various fruits and vegetables, such as mango, banana, pineapple, lime, sugarcane, eggplant, tomato, pumpkin, etc. Ms. Kojima started the project with the aim of providing stable incomes for country folk, who have been left behind compered to people living in cities. The farm’s strategy is to provide quality and safety, with the environment in mind, while using a business model based on accumulated know-how and the use of value added products.
4 years since establishment, with harvests going well the company is looking at opening direct sales stores national wide. Currently goods can be purchased at “Siem Reap River Market” near old market, and there is a plan to open their own shop in this year. Ms. Kojima aims to pass on to future generations not just a farm but an industry.
