Japanese Firms in Cambodia and the Training in Japan
Japanese firms are making inroads in Cambodia. As of May 2018 there are 257 member groups in JBAC – a 5-fold increase in 8 years. There are also many companies sending local employees to Japan for training; those employees can learn skills and work standards to utilize them in Cambodia when they return. Japanese skills, services and management know how are starting to be used in Cambodia.
Commencing Training in Japan of the Leaders of the Future
SOKEN (CAMBODIA) CO., LTD.
“SOKEN CAMBODIA”, a Japanese company, based in Phnom Penh, who is responsible for the comprehensive management of buildings and sanitary work has been dispatching Cambodian staff to its headquarters – Soken Co. Ltd. in Toride City, Ibaraki. Recently, the demand for building management and sanitation services is booming along with Phnom Penh’s number of buildings and the Cambodian economy. SOKEN CAMBODIA started up in Cambodia in 2011, and now it has 270 employees. With demand for a higher level of skills, the company has started sending employees for training in Japan. Staff with good reputations that apply are chosen to go. They take a 3 months course on Japanese and business manners before going. The first 2 participants who went to Japan in April learned hotel management and sanitation and fire fighting system cleaning-related skills for 4 months after an initial 3 months of language acquisition. And the 6 more who were sent to Japan in May,
are spending 1 year at the head office, and are currently undertaking training in Japanese hospitals etc. They have attracted superb reputations for their hard work ethic. They live in apartments close to the head office – 2 trainees per room. To avoid troubles while starting their new life in Japan, they receive flawless support from Japanese staff and all furniture is supplied. The company pays for all costs related to visas, plane tickets and insurance.The company plans to send around 10 per year – 4 more will set out for Japan early next year. Mr Ishikawa, the managing director of SOKEN CAMBODIA stated, “My hope is that the staff returning from training in Japan will become management level employees here in the future. As everyone has a chance to go to Japan, it lifts the motivation levels of staff as well.”
