Have you ever come across packaging too good to throw away? This time we visited a Japanese company who has entered the paper packaging industry in Cambodia with the aim of creating quality items like packaging for make up and snacks.

The Tokyo based group started to operate this factory in June 2018. They started with the aim of bringing “top Japanese quality”, and “stimulating the Cambodian paper packaging industry from the base up”. Initially, gaining trust with “immaculate and reliable quality” especially for Japanese fi rms in Cambodia, lately they have been increasingly receiving orders from local companies too.

At current, Cambodian staff account for 16 workers and 5 in management. The workers were not from the paper industry, but the Japanese CEO and the manager of the factory trained them up, starting out with the basics of the paper industry. Compromises can not be made to safety when, at times, work involves dangerous processes. The CEO, Mr. Yozo Saita said, “I want this first round of workers to act as leaders in the future, helping to train new recruits”.

Sanyo Package caters to custom orders with no minimum quantity and their products are affordable. Please feel free to consult them for your packaging needs.

Design and construction room. First step – prototype. Thicker papers can be printed on. The length of cutting edge and pressure applied by the cutting plotter can be changed according to the thickness of the paper, allowing for small quantity and custom orders. A cutting machine – essential in the creation of packaging. Currently there are 3 sizes (large, medium and small) and one for processing the thicker materials. Large paper is cut into smaller parts and folding lines are created, and molds are used to reduce leftovers. The machine pictured here cuts by applying about 150 tons of pressure, so paper is inserted manually one at a time with extreme caution.

It’s said that in Cambodia’s paper industry oftentimes staff eat and drink on the job, and animals enter workplaces. This is not ideal for hygiene and safety management. Face recognition security is used at the entrance, and all staff wash their hands and inspect each others hygiene and also take mandatory air showers.

After cutting, assembling work such as folding, gluing and adhesion is all performed on a single machine. Surprisingly is that all operations are done manually by hand. The operators must know where and how to make adjustments. The machines used are the latest model introduced to Cambodia, Cambodian staff are striving to make maximum use of the machines functions.

This machine applies adhesion by processing thin and thick papers through the rollers. Strong papers like these are used to make jigsaw puzzles and 3D displays, etc.

The final inspection is conducted by hand and eye. Items are checked for misalignment of printing and adhesion, for spoiling, and then delivered.
