Departing from the off ice

Predicting heavy traffic, we left early by car. We were aiming to board the service leaving at 10.30 from PrekPnov. However, we came to know PrekPnov’s port was still under construction – and so headed to RusseyKeo.

Arrival at RusseyKeo

The taxi from RusseyKeo was to leave at 10.50 – we arrived much too early and were forced to wait in the blazing sun – so took a break and checked out the local area.

Ticket offi ce – but with free rides, the staff had little to do at this time.

Free exercise park to use while waiting for the taxi to arrive.

Nearby kiosk selling drinks, etc.

Boarding

At last we board!

Steep stairs used to board – be careful not to fall!.

Our taxi was a long, thin and blue one.

Boat interior. These brand new boats are nice and clean. Our boat could hold up to 60pax.

Life jackets for emergency situations.

Toilet is at the very back.

TV and AC at the front.

View out the windows from inside – a glimpse at people’s lifestyles along the river.

You can get fresh air from the exit – becareful of the boat swaying. With the view of Sokha Hotel, our destination is near.

Disembarkment at Old Market

Steep steps – same as when embarking

Many boats here cater to the tourists who visit the night market

At the top of the stairs you’re met with the night market and info on the sightseeing boats.

• Fares are free

• 9 round trips are held from morning until late evening

• Our boat was on time

• It’s 1 hour from Prek Pnov in the north to Ta Khmau in the south

• Prek Pnov and Chbar Ampov are still under construction and not in use

• Eventually there will be 15 stops according to the MPWT

• This is a convenient way to avoid traffic along on the north-south corridor

in Phnom Penh for those travelling in morning, daytime and night

This service may prove better as a mode of transport for sightseeing rather than commuting at present. We only spent 5 minutes aboard but riding from start to finish would be much longer. Also, you can see the lives of people living along the Mekong, and the new skyscrapers in Phnom Penh. It’s free until August 1st, so give this liberating river cruise it a try!
