Many western explorers in the second half of the 19th century might have travelled in large expeditions with a lot of luggage as much as possible they tried to maintain their “western” lifestyle. THE BEIGE, a high-end tent resort, opened last year on the outskirts of Siem Reap, with the concept of recreating scenes from those times. In the midst of nature, the unique stay – in luxury tents – is receiving outstanding reviews on famous travel sites.
THE BEIGE, located 20kms from the city center is a Japanese-owned resort, established in October 2017. Situated on 10ha, the site is scattered with 8 tents made with organic materials as guest rooms (with plans to expand to 10 in December) and other resort facilities. The name is derived from the color of tents, matching the greens of the wet season and browns of the dry season. The tent fabric resembles the sailcloth of a yacht – unyielding in wind, though lightweight and durable. Breezes pass softly through the open interior, as relaxing reminders of nature all around.
There are four types of rooms, all with AC. The WiFiconnected rooms are on par with high-end hotels, but with no TV. Cleanliness of the rooms ensures an enjoyable stay. The furnishings are inspired by “antique and exploration”.
1.Inside of the guest room tent 2. Exterior view of the guest room tent 3. Spacious bathroom 4. Infi nity pool with 360°view of the jungle 5. You might meet elephant in this resort 6. A passage to the spa Equally as impressive as the rooms is the 5 meters high infi nity pool. The rectangular pool gives a rare 360°view of the jungle treetops. The refl ection of the sun setting over the green landscape is particularly stunning.
The spa and restaurant facilities are also splendid, with the ingredients used being fresh from farms. Another surprise is the resort’s pet elephant nearby. There are also activities such as yoga, picnics, village tours, and craftwork. And their motto is “putting in our all to make our guests desires a reality” – with requests such as cultural exchange with locals possible. The Angkor ruins are conveniently nearby (tickets needed for entry), and a Japanese manager is stationed at the resort.
