JLMM drip coffee comes in single use packs. Mothers living at Stung Meanchey Area in Phnom Penh are employed to hand pack these Cambodian three bean blend coffees one by one.
People in this area formerly relied on salvaging rubbish to make a living. In 2009 the rubbish dump was moved far away and people had to commute long distances to eke out a living. Since last summer the NGO, JLMM, started their coffee operation in order to offer mothers an extra income source. Previously they worked on many projects with the aim of providing for a society where poor people are looked after.
Ms. Asano, JLMM staff in Cambodia says they plan to employ more mothers, “We only have a few workers currently, but we aim to employ more mothers, giving them an income stream. We hope to have more people drinking our coffee and buying them as souvenirs.”
