Valentine’s Day Culture
Valentine’s Day Culture

On February 14th, many small and large stuffed animals appear at stalls along the road shoulder.

In Japan, Valentine’s Day is for girls to give chocolate to boys, but in Cambodia it’s the boys who confess their feelings to the girl they like.

Chocolate, flowers, and stuffed animals are all standard presents to send representing love.

I saw boys selecting tributes for their girls from stalls in the downtown area. According to shop staff, the most popular items are stuffed animals, some of which are about 1 meter long and go for more than $50 (USD).

The guys you see here have serious faces, getting ready for a once in a lifetime confession.

I noticed young girls with their families and other women come shopping as well.

Some girls buy themselves a gift to show off on their SNS to distract from their own loneliness.

What kind of present you give and to who varies in every country, but in Cambodia, Valentine’s Day is a precious day meant for conveying one’s love.
