Cambodia’s national flower is Phka Romduol (also known as mitrellamesnyi). Romduol grows up to 8-12 meter with stem diameter of 20-30 centimeters.
Leaf is flat and long in form with the size of 2-4 cm x 6-10 cm.
Romduol flower has fragrant smell for a long distance during the late afternoon and the evening. It grows in the nature and can be seen almost everywhere in Cambodia.
Cambodian people like to grow it for decoration of houses and public parks.Due to the attraction of fragrant smell, Khmer women have been compared to the Romduol flower and there are many popular songs featuring this flower in lyrics.
In the season of Romduol fruit, people who live close to the forest collect Romduol fruits to sell.
As a Cambodian person, I was familiar with the name “Romduol” and saw pictures of its flower many times before,however for some reasons I thought that Romduol flower was as big as hibiscus, it is maybe because I did not have a chance to see the actual flower closely as they bloom at a high place.
I was surprised realizing the flower is actually small and the whole tree can be used for many purposes including supplement construction materials.
