An Old Man Selling Porridge on the Street
An Old Man Selling Porridge on the Street
2017.09.23

A porridge stand on Street 432 is run by an old man and always very crowded with people.

A steaming bowl of porridge, “bobor” is one of the local’s favorite breakfast dishes.

Seeing the old porridge vendor on my way to the office every morning, I became intrigued to know about him.

I talked to him and found that he is 63 years old with two children.

His name is Mr. Men, and he had owned a restaurant specializing in breakfast for 10 years, but decided to become a street vendor because of increasingly high rent.

There are many street vendors selling breakfast, and the business environment is fiercely competitive.

Mr. Men used to sell as many as 200 bowls of porridge every day.

Lately the sales have not been going so well, but he still maintains to sell about 130 – 150 bowls per day.

Not only the morning time, but he opened his porridge stand in the afternoon 2:30 pm -5:30 pm. Most regular customers are office workers, construction workers, and students.

Mr. Men smilingly talked to us.“I feel that I am getting old, but won’t retire anytime soon.

I enjoy serving customers who wait for my porridge, and also need to earn money for my kids’ education.

”On top of its delicious taste, another reason for his popular porridge could be his charming personality.
